Weekly Challenge: A Self-Date

January 10, 2018 By Scare Your Soul Team

You’re busy.  Stressed.  Focused on giving to everyone else in your life, and not having the time to spend on yourself.

It’s easier than ever to get lost in the day-to-day stresses of the world.  It’s a constant effort to please others or be who we think we have to be in order to get the love, respect or appreciation we are after. – Tony Robbins

  • The average American works 47-hour week. Nearly 20% work 60-hour weeks.
  • 48% feel that their stress level is higher now than five years ago.
  • We are constantly giving to others, neglecting ourselves.

Left unchecked, this constant stream of busy-ness, stress and externality can have damaging effects on our lives.  So …

Your SYS Challenge for this week is …

Take yourself on a date.

Find an hour, a night (or a day!) and dedicate it to YOU.

Plan activities which excite you, remind you of things you used to love, or feed your soul.

You have to take care of yourself so you can take care of others and nothing says I love you like a date. Whatever the date is for you go on it and do it for yourself!  Treat your self the way you want someone to treat you.  Love yourself first and others will see you glow.

If it helps, print off this handy Permission Slip.

Some ideas for you as you plan your “date”:

Play “Opentable Roulette”:   search for a restaurant in your town that you’ve NEVER been to.  Make a reservation for one and self-wine & dine.

Cuddle with a non-human who loves you unconditionally.   Or visit one in a pet store.

Go see The Post.  Or Lady Bird.  Or Call Me By Your Name.

Visit a museum.  Take a journal and write down what painting strikes your heart.  Go home & learn more about the artist and become a mini-expert.

Go on a nostalgic ride down memory lane. This could be anything from reading your old journals, to searching YouTube for your favorite childhood programs from the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, to flipping through the pages of your middle/high school yearbooks.

Become a tourist in your own city.  Find a neighborhood you don’t know, and immerse yourself.  Get lost.  Meet people.

Take a class nobody else wants to do with you (improv, dance, self-defense).  Go to that gym or yoga studio class you’ve been missing.
