Meditation’s definition, as defined by Patanjali, the Sage also known as the “Father of Yoga”:
“The progressive silencing of the thought process until you reach the source of thought.”
This definition illustrates the goal of this week perfectly, which is to help you realize that you are not your thoughts. You are the OBSERVER of your thoughts. What does this mean? This means your thoughts, which often stem from the fearful ego, do not define you. It also it means that you CHOOSE your thoughts, and in turn choose how to feel, choose what to say, choose how you act and so forth.
This week, for three days, we will ask you to meditate for just a few minutes. If you already meditate regularly, add this into your regular routine! Start to bear witness to the mental stories you have going on, rather than BEING the mental story. Once you understand your mind, and practice awareness, you start to see it can be your greatest tool rather than your worst enemy.
Today, on Day 1 of this challenge, it is all about prepping for the week. Download the HeadSpace app with this link. You will receive more guidance tomorrow on what to do from there! Next, decide WHEN and WHERE you will meditate. That’s right, pencil it in. Set yourself up for success, rather than saying you will get to it, and letting the day slip by you (and the mind convince you not to practice this new silence).
Because we are so excited to help you incorporate meditation into your daily lives, we have come up with a PRIZE for this challenge. If you complete all 3 days of meditation, and post on Instagram your experience during each of those days (tagging Scare Your Soul), you will be entered to win one of three 5 Minute Journals, which will further help you practice mindfulness and gratitude!
This challenge is being led by our ambassadors Casey Edward (@casey_Edward) and Sara Bischof (@themeditationdiares), so if you have any questions feel free to reach out to them!
Other than that, get ready to meditate, and like we said, we will be giving you more info, insight, and tips as the week goes on!
