When I was young, I used to get beaten up constantly while waiting for the school bus. I was short, soft spoken, and shy.
I can visibly remember the mornings when I would walk down the driveway in my cardigan sweater and cords that my mom dressed me in … in panic nearly every day. The bus-stop was where other kids had their fun. My arm was dislocated, I was beaten one time with a metal reflector pole. And that was just the physical stuff. The emotional bullying was more insidious. The taunting. The wanting to be invisible. I had to be removed from school for a week when it just got too much to handle.
When I got older, on an overseas flight for a teaching job in Israel, I decided to give up acting out of fear, and start saying YES to life … the universe … my mission.
It was a very simple, conscious decision to take everything back. And the truth? I’ve never looked back.
Once you have the taste of living life that is all at once honest, weird, passionate, interesting, and adventurous you don’t WANT to go back.
Because I don’t want an ordinary life. I demand more. That, to me, is what the #scareyoursoul movement is all about.
