Ambassador Sindy Warren is a woman of many talents. A mom, wife, attorney, yogi, and now, a published author.
Here’s her Scare Your Soul story:
“I thought about writing a book about yoga for a while before I actually committed to doing it. While I felt like I had something to say about how the ancient philosophical roots of yoga are incredibly relevant and helpful for the modern yogi, I was scared.
Who was I to actually sit down and try and write a book? What if my thoughts on the subject were really stupid? And what if my writing sucked? I started to write anyway.
I’ve been participating in Scare Your Soul challenges for some time now, and I firmly belief in the power of growth though stretching past our comfort zones in all kinds of ways, big and small. I’ve been inspired by seeing my friend and SYS founder Scott Simon do crazy things like jumping out of an airplane when he is (was?) scared of heights. And of other SYS participants taking huge leaps of faith by coming to terms with issues ranging from addiction to depression.
This was in the back of my mind when I started putting pen to paper (or, more precisely, fingers to keyboard).
I wrote for a while before I even told anyone I was working on a book. And for a while longer before I actually started to take the whole endeavor seriously enough to start reaching out to publishers once I had a solid draft of the manuscript.
Now that my book has actually been published, I’m thrilled, yes, but also terrified.
“It really might just be awful and people might hate it and think I’m a loser,” the voice in my head sometimes says. Whether or not this is true is almost besides the point. I’m pushing past the fear and the doubting voice in my head. I’m trying to practice what I preach: fear is not the enemy, so long as we don’t let it control us.
Instead, it can be the catalyst for real growth.”
